Take a thrilling one-hour helicopter journey over unspoiled wilderness to the most remote Atlantic salmon river on the island of Newfoundland, and get ready for an unrivaled fishing experience.
Our season runs from early June to early September, with a peak period from mid June to late July. Some of the best action is available adjacent to the lodge, but for the more adventurous an unlimited number of excellent pools await a short hike up or downstream.
The Grey River is largely a grisle river with fish in the four to six-pound class, but larger fish up to twelve pounds are caught every year.
Rods in the 7-9 weight category with floating lines, and reels with a good drag system and plenty of backing are recommended. Bring an assortment of standard Atlantic salmon flies, but pack extra dry flies. We experience very high success rates on dries, which, combined with our remote location, provides guests a premier angling experience.
For novice anglers, we keep a full compliment of rods and reels to use free of charge.
We have two lodges. Our main accommodations, "The Forks", accepts parties of up to nine anglers. At “Salmon Brook”, located on a tributary of Grey River, we limit parties to four in order to preserve the world class angling on its more intimate waters.
Our standard trip is five nights at the lodge with six days of fishing. Access via helicopter comes directly to the lodge from the airport at Deer Lake. Custom packages are available, but are best accommodated with early bookings.
Is it the premier dry fly fishing that sets us apart? The remote and rugged setting? Our spacious and modern lodges? The unspoiled fishery? Grey River lodge is a combination of all these reasons to visit, but most of all it’s our dedicated staff. We work tirelessly to ensure total guest satisfaction. Our guides are patient and knowledgeable, and all our staff puts your comfort, safety and experience first.
